Indira and Eshwar Foundation for Research (IEFR): IEFR’s mission is to create a more diverse and inclusive scientific community by providing women scientists with the training and resources they need to succeed in translational research and entrepreneurship. IEFR’s programs are designed to help women scientists develop the skills they need to conduct cutting-edge research, lead teams, and start their own businesses.
In a groundbreaking move to foster inclusivity and empower women in the field of science, Dr. Uday Saxena, an esteemed ex-Pharma veteran, launched the Indira and Eshwar Foundation for Research (IEFR) on July 25. The foundation’s primary goal is to encourage and support women scientists in pursuing careers in Therapeutics Translational Research and entrepreneurship.
Dr. Saxena, armed with a Ph.D. from Memorial University of Newfoundland and a Post-Doctoral Fellowship from Columbia University, brings a wealth of experience from his roles at Parke-Davis/Pfizer, AtheroGenics Inc., and as the Chief Scientific Officer of Dr Reddy’s Laboratories in the US and India. Co-founding ReaGene Biosciences and ReaGene Innovations, he has been at the forefront of revolutionizing drug discovery.
The Motivation Behind IEFR
IEFR is a testament to Dr. Saxena’s dedication to his parents, Indira and Eshwar Raj Saxena, who were trailblazers in Sociology and Chemistry. Their influence fueled Dr. Saxena’s passion for science, making July 25, his father’s birthday, the perfect day to launch the foundation formally.

The IEFR Program – Shaping Future Leaders
Since October 2023, IEFR collaborated with biotech companies, offering a three-month hands-on program focused on wet lab training in critical areas such as vaccines, stem cells, and CRISPR technologies. This curated program goes beyond the laboratory, incorporating workshops on soft skills such as networking, communication, and entrepreneurship.
IEFR’s commitment is evident in its decision to fund the entire program for the selected candidates. Each batch will consist of five master’s level scientists chosen competitively, ensuring a highly selective and impactful experience.
Vision for the Future
Dr. Saxena envisions IEFR inspiring women scientists to become game-changers as entrepreneurs and CEOs. Recognizing women scientists’ unique work ethic and organizational skills, the foundation aims to cultivate future leaders in the biotech industry, both in India and globally.
Join the Movement
For those eager to be part of this transformative initiative, the flagship program opened its doors for applications in September 2023. Keep an eye on future updates IEFR’s official channels for updates on the application process and program details.
Progress to Date – A Glimpse into Success
IEFR has already witnessed an overwhelming response, receiving close to 100 applications. After a rigorous selection process, three interns have been chosen for the program. These talented individuals are currently immersed in hands-on projects related to vaccines and stem cell therapies, actively contributing to cutting-edge research.
The foundation has successfully launched its inaugural chat series, “Her Story,” featuring Dr. Ketki Tulpule, SVP, RX-Propellant, as the first guest. The session explored insights into building a successful career, making informed choices, and women’s leadership roles. This engaging discussion set the stage for impactful conversations that inspire future women scientists.
IEFR: Shaping the Future of Women in Science
IEFR’s commitment to empowering women scientists is evident in its comprehensive program, mentorship initiatives, and the tangible progress achieved in a short span. As we eagerly anticipate the IEFR Interns Talent Program launch in October, we invite aspiring women scientists to be part of this transformative journey, forging a path to leadership, innovation, and success in biotechnology. Join IEFR and be part of a movement shaping the future of women in science!
