Bonn International Fellowships 2026: Funding Opportunity for Short-Term Research Visits
The University of Bonn has announced the Bonn International Fellowships 2026, an exciting opportunity to invite outstanding international researchers for short-term stays in Bonn. This program aims to strengthen global collaborations, enhance academic exchange, and foster long-term partnerships.
Program Overview
The fellowships support visits of up to 12 days for excellent researchers from all disciplines. Fellows are expected to actively engage in Bonn’s academic life through public lectures, seminars, colloquia, and networking activities, making their work visible to the university community and beyond.
Preference will be given to scholars from the University’s strategic partner institutions and from priority countries for international collaboration.
Who Can Be Invited?
- Post-doctoral researchers and experienced faculty members based at universities or research institutes abroad.
- Scholars with a strong international reputation in their field.
- Please note: applications can only be submitted by University of Bonn faculty members. Interested fellows must be nominated by a host in Bonn.
Funding Support
The fellowship provides:
- Travel allowance (depending on the fellow’s country of origin)
- Daily allowance of €160 (up to 12 days, including arrival and departure)
- Material expenses for hosting activities (up to €500 per proposal), which may include:
- Catering for academic events
- Public relations and outreach costs
The fellowship stay must take place between January 1 and December 31, 2026, with all funds used within that period.
Selection Criteria
Applications will be evaluated based on:
- The scientific reputation of the invited fellow.
- The fellow’s contribution to academic life in Bonn (e.g., lectures, workshops, joint events).
- The long-term impact of the visit, including potential for future collaboration.
Application Process
Applications must be submitted by eligible hosts at the University of Bonn. The dossier includes:
- Online application form
- Project description (max. 6 pages) outlining research achievements, planned activities in Bonn, and collaboration goals
- Fellow’s CV
- Signed invitation letter from the Bonn host
- Informal declaration of consent from the fellow
- Financing plan (using the provided template)

- Call opens: May 29, 2025
- Deadline: September 22, 2025 (5:00 pm CET)
- Results announced: Early December 2025
- Fellowship period: January 1 – December 31, 2026
