The India Reimagined Fellowship has been officially launched — a prestigious global program by Blockchain for Impact (BFI) that aims to attract exceptional scientific and professional talent from around the world to India.

This initiative is designed to tackle pressing challenges in biomedical science and public health, helping outstanding researchers, clinicians, entrepreneurs, and innovators relocate to Indian institutions and establish sustainable “impact engines.”

  • Total Grant: USD 300,000 (approx. ₹2.5 Crore) per fellow
  • Duration: 3 years
  • Eligibility: Indian origin and international researchers, clinicians, and entrepreneurs
  • Host Requirement: Fellowship must be hosted at an FCRA-approved or exempted institution in India
  • Mode of Disbursement: Three tranches of USD 100,000 each, transferred to the host institution

📆 Funding Structure

Year 1 – First Tranche (USD 100,000)

  • Disbursed after fellowship approval and documentation between BFI and the host institution.

Year 2 – Second Tranche (USD 100,000)

  • Released upon submission of:
    • Annual Progress Report
    • Financial Utilization Certificate (UC) certified by the institution’s finance office
    • Mid-Term Review (scientific progress, prototypes, field validation, etc.)

Year 3 – Final Tranche (USD 100,000)

  • Released after a satisfactory second-year review.
  • Focuses on scale-up and sustainability (clinical validation, product rollout, public health implementation, or commercialization).
  • Requires:
    • Updated project plan for final year
    • Outcomes report (publications, patents, health interventions)
    • Final audit statement

🧾 Fellowship Accountability and Reporting

Both fellow and host institution must submit:

  • Annual progress and financial reports
  • Mid-term and final technical reviews
  • Comprehensive final report and audited statement of accounts at the end of Year 3

🧭 Nomination and Application Process

The fellowship operates strictly through institutional nominations.

Step 1: Identify a Suitable Candidate

Host institutions nominate an exceptional researcher, entrepreneur, or innovator (outside India) with a strong track record who is ready to relocate and work full-time in India for at least three years.

Step 2: Institutional Commitment

Host institution must:

  • Provide research infrastructure and administrative support
  • Act as the custodian of funds
  • Ensure accountability and compliance (including HMSC and ethical approvals)

Step 3: Prepare the Nomination Package

The application must include:

  • Formal nomination letter (signed by institutional authority)
  • Nominee’s CV
  • Two recommendation letters
  • 10-page research/innovation proposal
  • Summary of research contributions
  • Proof of qualifications, publications, or patents
  • Institutional commitment details

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, typically within 12 weeks.
Selection involves:

The first tranche of funding is released within 6 weeks of MoU signing between BFI and the host institution.
