Now in its dynamic fourth season, the award honors young postdoctoral researchers and mid-career scientists who are changing lives through their bold research in biological and chemical sciences.

The Merck Young Scientist Award isn’t just a trophy—it’s a celebration of scientific vision, determination, and the power of research to solve society’s biggest challenges. Open to scientists with less than 10 years of post-PhD research experience, the award offers both recognition and generous monetary prizes for outstanding work in academia and research institutes across India.
🔍 Who Can Apply?
- Indian nationals
- Affiliated with a research institute
- Less than 10 years of research experience post-PhD
🧪 Award Categories
Researchers can apply under one of two disciplines:
- Biological Sciences
- Chemical Sciences
(Interdisciplinary life sciences researchers are encouraged to apply under the closest matching category.)
And compete in one of two experience brackets:
- Emerging Talent: ≤5 years post-PhD
- Scientific Excellence: >5 to ≤10 years post-PhD

Runners-up
- Emerging Talent: ₹1,00,000
