📚 About the Fellowship
The NAEd/Spencer Postdoctoral Fellowship supports early-career scholars making significant contributions to education research. Each year, 25 outstanding researchers receive funding, mentorship, and professional development to advance their work.
This non-residential program provides:
- 💰 $70,000 for one academic year (paid in two installments)
- 🧠 Three professional development retreats led by senior scholars
- 🎯 Mentorship from a leading expert of your choice
Fellows may remain at their home institution or work at another research site of their choosing.
✅ Eligibility
You must:
- Have earned your PhD/EdD (or equivalent) between Jan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2024
- Not hold tenure at the application deadline
- Demonstrate a record of education research
- Apply individually (no group applications)
If you finish your doctorate in 2025, you’ll be eligible to apply in the 2026 cycle.
🌍 Broad Disciplinary Scope
While research must focus on education, applicants from any discipline are welcome — past fellows have backgrounds in anthropology, economics, psychology, history, sociology, public health, and more.
📝 Application Components
Your online application must include:
- Background details (education, employment, publications, awards)
- Career statement (trajectory, goals, and how this project fits in)
- Abstract (1 paragraph)
- Project description (max 10 pages + bibliography, in one file)
- Example of past research (max 20 pages, double-spaced)
- CV or resume
- 3 letters of recommendation (submitted online by deadline)
📅 Application Review Timeline:
- Jan–Feb 2026: Screening for completeness and eligibility
- Feb: First review — ~50–60 semifinalists selected
- Mar: External peer reviews by senior scholars
- Apr: Final review — 25 fellows chosen
