GIMS CMI the 1st Government Hospital–Based Incubator in Uttar Pradesh Nurtures Startup Raising USD 2 Million (₹16.6 Crore) Seed Funding
A breakthrough moment for India’s public hospital innovation ecosystem
Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh —
The Centre for Medical Innovation (CMI) at the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), Greater Noida has created national history. A startup nurtured inside this government hospital–based incubator has successfully raised USD 2 million (approximately ₹16.6 crore) in seed funding led by Bluehill.VC, along with a prestigious Design-Linked Incentive (DLI) Grant from the Government of India.
CMI operates at GIMS and is a State Government Section 8 company established to run the medical incubator at GIMS under the Department of Medical Education, Government of Uttar Pradesh.
This achievement firmly positions Uttar Pradesh as a rising leader in India’s MedTech innovation landscape.

From “Impossible” to “National Model”
Building a medical incubator inside a government hospital was once seen as nearly impossible. Standard incubation frameworks designed for engineering or technology institutes do not work within a hospital ecosystem.
Despite the odds, CMI–GIMS built a completely new model — from scratch:
• Clinical Startup OPD clinics
• Real-world clinical immersion
• A structured clinical mentorship framework
• Validation pathways for medical devices and med-AI
• India’s first government hospital–driven innovation culture
Backed by the vision and support of the Government of Uttar Pradesh, this once-unthinkable initiative has become a nationally replicable model.
About the Startup: Sophrosyne Technologies
Sophrosyne Technologies is a pioneering health-tech startup developing India’s own medical-grade chipsets for next-generation wearables and medical devices — a domain currently dominated by imports.
The company is founded by:
• Manish Srivastava, PhD (Biosensors), University College Cork, Ireland — researcher with several granted patents
• Jatin Gupta — 15+ years of global experience in business strategy & operations
What Sophrosyne is Building

• Multi-vital biosensing
• Smart power management
• Proprietary AI for real-time health-risk prediction and prevention
Alongside these chipsets, the company is developing energy-harvesting technologies to power future invasive and non-invasive medical devices.
Impact & Industry Recognition
Sophrosyne has already attracted interest from leading medical and consumer device manufacturers in India and the UK.
It is also a select recipient of DLI grants, highlighting strong government confidence in its mission and strategic importance.
