The NextGen Precision Health Initiative is now accepting applications for the NextGen Postdoctoral Fellows Program — a prestigious opportunity for graduate students and postdocs committed to translational research relevant to human health.
Whether you’re just starting your postdoc journey or advancing to your next stage, this program offers two years of competitive funding, mentorship, and career development support at MU, UMKC, Missouri S&T, or UMSL.
🎯 Who Should Apply
You’re eligible if you:
- Are ready to begin or continue a postdoctoral position at a UM System university by January 2026
- Have a UM System faculty member who has agreed to be your primary mentor
- Are a:
- Late-stage graduate student
- Early-stage postdoc (≤3 years cumulative experience)
- Clinical fellow pursuing a physician-scientist career path
- Conduct human health-related research — with special consideration for projects that bridge disciplines, foster industry partnerships, or have strong potential for clinical translation
- Can submit a complete application package in PDF format (see below)
📄 Application Package Requirements
Your submission must include:
- Applicant NIH-style biosketch (≤5 pages) with a targeted personal statement
- Research plan (≤3 pages) – include Specific Aims, Approach, Significance, Innovation, Rigor, and Feasibility
- Career development statement (≤2 pages) – career goals, expertise, rationale for mentor choice, and 2-year plan
- Mentor/co-mentor biosketch (≤5 pages) – personal statement should outline mentoring support
- Follow formatting rules: ≥0.5-inch margins, ≥11pt font (smaller text allowed in figures if legible)
Tip: Strong applications will show clear communication skills and the potential to innovate in biomedical research.
