DCGI Issues Alert
The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has issued a nationwide alert over select batches of Novo Nordisk’s diabetes injectable medicines after the company reported a theft during product transit.
According to the notification, the stolen batches were being transported from Novo Nordisk’s Bhiwandi hub along the route through Nagpur, Raipur, Cuttack, and Kolkata. These medicines, derived from r-DNA technology, must be stored strictly between 2°C and 8°C to maintain quality. Any lapse in cold-chain storage could compromise product efficacy and, ultimately, patient safety.
Dr. Rajeev Singh Raghuvanshi, DCGI, cautioned: The quality of the products may be compromised if they are not stored under proper conditions, which would impact both safety and efficacy.
Products Under Alert
The affected batches include:
- Insulin degludec/insulin aspart (Ryzodeg FlexTouch)
- Insulin aspart (Fiasp Penfill, Fiasp FlexTouch)
- Semaglutide injections (Wegovy FlexTouch 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg, 1 mg)
Regulatory Action
- The DCGI has directed state and central drug regulators to maintain strict vigilance over the movement of these products.
- Any suspicious consignments should be investigated under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.
- Police investigation into the theft is ongoing.
