The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, invites applications from Indian Nationals working overseas to return and contribute to scientific research in India under the prestigious Ramalingaswami Re-entry Fellowship (DBT-RRF). Since its inception in 2006-07, this fellowship has successfully attracted top-tier researchers to Indian universities and research institutions, fostering innovation and leadership in biotechnology and life sciences.

🔍 Why Apply for the DBT-RRF Fellowship?

  • Competitive Fellowship: Rs. 1,35,000/- per month (consolidated)
  • Research Grant: Rs. 13,00,000/- per annum for consumables, equipment, travel, and project staff
  • Institutional Overhead: Rs. 50,000/- per annum
  • Eligibility for Other Research Grants: Fellows can apply for extramural research funding
  • Flexible Career Path: Opportunity to transition into permanent faculty positions in India

🏆 Who Can Apply?

Indian Nationals working in overseas research institutions

Age Limit: Up to 45 years (as of the closing date)

Research Areas: Life sciences, biotechnology, bio-engineering, healthcare (human and animal), agriculture, veterinary biotechnology, bio-energy, and allied disciplines

Minimum Qualification:

  • Ph.D./M.D. in life sciences, agriculture, bioinformatics, or allied fields OR
  • M.Tech. in Biotechnology/allied areas/medicine
  • At least three years of postdoctoral research experience overseasCandidates who returned to India within one year (two years for women) can apply, provided they have not secured a permanent position in India

⏳ Fellowship Duration

  • Initial Period: 3 years
  • Extension: Up to 2 additional years based on performance review
  • Fellowship Discontinuation: If a fellow secures a permanent position in India, the fellowship component stops, but the research grant continues for project completion

Applicants can choose to work at any S&T institution, university, or national laboratory in India with appropriate R&D and infrastructural support.
