National Immunization Day
On the occasion of National Immunization Day, the spotlight is on vaccines not just as tools against infectious diseases, but also as powerful agents in cancer prevention. Vaccines such as those for Hepatitis B and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) have been shown to significantly reduce the risk of liver cancer and cervical cancer, respectively.
Hepatitis B infection is a leading cause of liver cancer worldwide, while persistent HPV infection is responsible for the majority of cervical cancer cases. Immunization against these viruses can therefore prevent infections that may otherwise progress to cancer over time.
This highlights the broader public health importance of vaccination—not only saving lives from infectious diseases but also reducing long-term cancer burden. As awareness grows, increasing vaccine coverage remains a critical step toward building a healthier future.
