IIT Gandhinagar to Confer 734 Degrees at its 15th Convocation

Neelkanth Mishra to Deliver IIT Gandhinagar  Convocation Address; 733 Students to Graduate Across Programmes

Gandhinagar | June 18, 2026: The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) will hold its 15th Convocation on June 20, 2026, at the Helipad Exhibition Centre (HEC), Gandhinagar.

This year, the Institute will award a total of 734 degrees, with one of the largest graduating cohorts in its history. The graduating class has students from undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes and is indicative of the sustained growth of IITGN in education, research and innovation.

The momentous occasion will be graced by Neelkanth Mishra, Chief Economist, Axis Bank, Chairman, Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and Member, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI who will be the chief guest for the convocation. Dr L N Dorairajan, Executive Director of AIIMS Rajkot, as the chief Guest for the Awards Ceremony and Prof Pai-Chi Li, President of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Guest of Honour will also preside over the highly anticipated ceremony.

Speaking about the occasion, Prof Rajat Moona, Director, IIT Gandhinagar, said, “Each graduating student has a unique story of hard work, resilience and transformation. We believe that education is not just about gaining knowledge and skills, it is about developing the ability to think critically, act responsibly and contribute positively to society. As our students embark on careers, higher studies, entrepreneurship and public service, they will take forward the values of innovation, empathy and purpose, and contribute meaningfully to solve the challenges and opportunities of a rapidly changing world.”

Speaking about the occasion, Prof Bhaskar Datta, Dean of Academic Affairs, IIT Gandhinagar, said, “Graduates across all our academic programmes have developed an understanding of how to learn. This trait is likely to help each student navigate through the evolving demands of their professions and fulfill their responsibilities as part of a skilled workforce.”

The graduating batch consists of 225 women and 508 men from 26 states and Union Territories  of India, along with international students. The Institute will also award 107 PhD degrees, underlining its strong focus on research and innovation. In addition, one student graduating from the BTech-MTech Dual Degree programme will receive both BTech and MTech degrees, bringing the total number of degrees awarded to 734.

The maximum students graduating are from Gujarat (104), followed by Maharashtra (84), Uttar Pradesh (81), Rajasthan (74), West Bengal (58), Madhya Pradesh (40. In recognition of the exceptional accomplishments of graduating students in the fields of academics, research, leadership, innovation, entrepreneurship, sports, arts and culture, and social service, IIT Gandhinagar will conduct its annual Awards Ceremony on June 19, 2026, as part of the Convocation celebrations.

This year’s Awards Ceremony will honour over 46 graduating students with a variety of prestigious medals and awards, including the President’s Gold Medals and Director’s Gold Medals across BTech, MTech, MSc, MA and PhD programmes. In addition, Institute Gold Medals will be awarded to students who have excelled in their academic performance in their respective disciplines, which include Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Cognitive Science, Mathematics, Physics and ICDT. The awards will celebrate students who have led social initiatives, championed campus festivals, engineered inventive solutions to real-world problems and pursued their creative and extracurricular interests with devotion and distinction.

IIT Gandhinagar has gained a reputation as one of the best higher education institutions in India for its interdisciplinary approach to education, emphasis on research and innovation, and vibrant student culture. The Convocation is a celebration of these values and of the accomplishments of the graduating class.

The Convocation ceremony is scheduled to be attended by graduating students, parents, faculty members, alumni and distinguished guests from academia, industry, government and the wider community.
