Taranpreet is currently a research assistant and working towards her Ph.D. in Dr. Priya Banerjee’s lab at the Department of Physics, SUNY Buffalo, NY. Her research focuses on biophysical methods to characterize biomolecular condensates/ Membrane-less organelles, spontaneously formed by Intrinsically disordered proteins and Nucleic Acids. She is from Ludhiana, Punjab, India, and completed her Master’s degree in Physics from Panjab University, Chandigarh. She is a confused physicist in the exciting but complex world of biology, who loves singing and dancing when she is not doing experiments. He finished M.Tech dissertation work in cancer nanomedicine under the guidance of Prof. Rohit Srivastava. Currently, he is a PhD student in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Delaware, USA. Here he talks about his first-author research article (M.Tech research work) titled “pH-responsive delivery of anti-metastatic niclosamide using mussel inspired polydopamine nanoparticles” published in the International Journal of Pharmaceutics (2021).

Novel mechanism discovered for General Anesthetic Propofol

Dr. Mandira Dutta’s interview with Bio Patrika hosting “Vigyan Patrika”, a series of author interviews. Dr. Datta pursued her Ph.D. at the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS), Kolkata, India, under the supervision of Dr. Biman Jana. In her Ph.D., the primary focus was on the theoretical and computational investigation of molecular motor dynamics and their effects on different disease-related mutations. She obtained her Ph.D. degree in 2020, and currently, she is working as a postdoctoral research scholar in the group of Prof. Gregory A. Voth, Department of Chemistry at the University of Chicago, USA. Her present research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanism of viral dynamics, especially SARS-CoV-2 using molecular dynamics simulation approaches. Here, Mandira talks about her work titled “Mechanistic basis of propofol-induced disruption of kinesin processivity”, published as the first author in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, USA, 2021.

Withaferin A as a potent regulator of hepatocellular carcinoma

Varsha D. Shiragannavar’s interview with Bio Patrika hosting “Vigyan Patrika”, a series of author interviews. Varsha is currently a second year Ph.D. student working in the lab of Dr. Prasanna K. Santhekadur at Center of Excellence in Molecular Biology and Regenerative Medicine (CEMR) Laboratory, Department of Biochemistry, JSS Medical College, JSS AHER, Mysuru. Her doctoral studies is primarily focused on investigating the role of RNA-induced silencing complex and associated proteins in the progression of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma. She is trying to understand the molecular/cellular process on how RISC complex genes and protein are regulated when treated with many dietary natural products. Here, Varsha talks about her work titled “Withaferin A Acts as a Novel Regulator of Liver X Receptor-a in HCC” published as first author in Front Oncol 2021.
