Bharat Life Sciences Award 2026 Invites Applications with ₹7 Crore Grant Support

Bharat Life Sciences Award 2026 Opens Applications with ₹7 Crore Grant Support for Scientists and Innovators

New Delhi: Applications are now open for the Bharat Life Sciences Award (BLSA) 2026, a first-of-its-kind national platform designed to recognize excellence across India’s life sciences ecosystem while providing substantial grant support to accelerate future innovation.

Organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and powered by Eli Lilly and Company (India), the award combines national recognition with grants worth ₹7 crore, making it one of India’s largest life sciences recognition and funding initiatives.

Unlike conventional awards that primarily celebrate past achievements, BLSA aims to invest in the next phase of scientific discovery by supporting outstanding researchers, institutions, startups, and innovation ecosystems working across life sciences and healthcare.

A Platform to Advance Scientific Excellence

The Bharat Life Sciences Award has been conceived as an independent, merit-based platform recognizing contributions across the entire life sciences value chain.

Applications are free of charge, with no preliminary screening barriers, ensuring equal opportunity for scientists, public and private research institutions, universities, research teams, and life sciences startups.

The initiative seeks to celebrate scientific excellence while strengthening India’s innovation ecosystem in alignment with the country’s vision for Viksit Bharat 2047.

What Makes BLSA Different?

According to the organizers, the award is built around five key principles:

  • Grant support worth ₹7 crore to accelerate future research and innovation.
  • Recognition across the full spectrum of the life sciences ecosystem, including individuals, research teams, institutions, startups, and ecosystem builders.
  • Independent and transparent evaluation by an eminent Advisory Council and jury.
  • Free and open applications without entry fees or screening barriers.
  • A focus on supporting future scientific impact rather than only recognizing past achievements.

The evaluation process will be overseen by an independent Advisory Council, with Grant Thornton Bharat serving as the Process Advisor to ensure transparency and rigor.

Broad National Collaboration

The Bharat Life Sciences Award is being convened in consultation with several leading government and industry organizations, including:

  • Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India
  • Department of Pharmaceuticals
  • Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC)
  • Invest India

Why It Matters

India has rapidly emerged as a global hub for biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, healthcare innovation, and biomedical research. However, national platforms that combine scientific recognition with substantial financial support remain limited.

By offering grants alongside recognition, the Bharat Life Sciences Award seeks not only to acknowledge excellence but also to empower scientists and innovators to translate their research into meaningful healthcare and societal impact.
