Scientific Fellowships for Master, PhD, and Medical Students

Bayer Foundation has announced its 2025 fellowship programs, offering funding opportunities for outstanding master, PhD, and medical students worldwide. These prestigious fellowships support international research projects, internships, and academic placements, enhancing the recipients’ study programs with global experience.

As part of its commitment to fostering diversity and gender equality in science, Bayer Foundation strongly encourages applications from women, individuals from low- and middle-income countries, parents with childcare responsibilities, and those working in Germany with German as a second language.

Fellowship Opportunities

Fellowship in Drug Discovery Sciences

For master or PhD students across all scientific disciplines, including pharmacy and data science, whose research is relevant to the pharmaceutical and consumer healthcare (over-the-counter) industries.

Fellowship for Agricultural Science

For master or PhD students, including those in data science, focusing on fundamental or applied studies relevant to the Crop Science industry.

Fellowship for Medical Sciences

Open to all students of human and veterinary medicine, as well as master and PhD students specializing in medical engineering, applied medical sciences, data science in medicine, and public health.

These fellowships honor the legacies of Otto Bayer, Jeff Schell, and Carl Duisberg, who significantly contributed to scientific research and innovation at Bayer.

New! Fellowship for Climate & Health

A newly introduced fellowship for students in human or veterinary medicine, as well as master and PhD students in natural sciences, pharmacy, public health, or epidemiology. This program focuses on the impact of climate change on health, particularly in:

  • Women’s health and vulnerable populations
  • Cardio-Renal Health
  • Neglected Tropical Diseases
  • Respiratory Health

Funding & Eligibility

Successful applicants are eligible for up to €10,000 in funding, with fellowships lasting up to six months.

  • Students in Germany must undertake placements in another country.
  • Students outside Germany must complete their fellowships at a German research institution.

Application Process

Applicants must review the guidelines and FAQs before applying. The application period runs from February 14 – April 11, 2025, and applications must be submitted through the digital portal.

Bayer Foundation-Lindau Fellowship for Early Career Academic Researchers

The Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting offers a unique platform for early career scientists to engage with Nobel laureates, facilitating cross-disciplinary knowledge exchange.

Who Can Apply?

Early career scientists studying or conducting research. Further details can be found on the Lindau Nobel Foundation Website.

What is Offered?

Each year, 20 early career researchers are selected as Bayer Foundation-Lindau Fellows to attend the prestigious Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting. The program includes an exclusive networking event with leading industry figures.

Application Details

The application process is managed by the Lindau Nobel Foundation and is independent of Bayer Foundation. More information is available here.


Fellowship for STEM Student Teachers & Teachers

This fellowship supports future educators in STEM fields, providing funding for internships, research projects, and professional training.

Eligibility

  • Trainee teachers or pedagogy students (Bachelor, Master, PhD, Staatsexamen) specializing in STEM subjects.
  • Newly qualified teachers (<3 years) with a focus on STEM education.
  • Grundschule and Förderschule teachers seeking STEM-related professional development.

Funding & Application

  • Up to €10,000 in funding for fellowships up to 12 months.
  • Opportunities include internships, STEM education research, summer schools, and training courses.

Fellowship for Apprentices & Early Career Professionals

Bayer Foundation offers funding for apprentices and early career professionals without an academic background, supporting their personal and professional development.

Who Can Apply?

  • Apprentices, dual students, or professionals without a university degree and with less than five years of employment.
  • Applicants must be working or studying in a German-speaking country (Germany, Austria, or Switzerland).
  • Special encouragement is given to parents and individuals with German as a second language.

Funding & Application

  • Up to €10,000 in funding for fellowships up to 12 months.
  • Funding can be used for internships, research projects, personal development courses (including language training), and parental support for further education.
  • Applications open February 14 – April 11, 2025.
